Happy birthday Irene!
by Lucy
The Good Ship Irene is 105 years old today! Happy birthday dear Irene. Good bless Irene and all who sail in her.
We are all celebrating in a delightful restaurant in Bermuda. Tomorrow Irene and her New Dawn Traders set sail for our 3+ week passage across the Atlantic. Our longest passage yet!

Reblogged this on New Dawn Traders.
Fair winds to you
Keep in touch !
Write me back if you can so I’ll have your adress.
Thanks! My address is lucy (AT) newdawntraders.com
Congratulations on reaching this grand old age Irene!
If you stop in Horta on Faial island in the Azores, I highly recommend a fine G&T in Cafe Peter, and do seek out Theresa in the daily market in Horta; she will be happy to help you resupply with fantastic fresh organic fruit & veg, eggs & unpasteurized milk – at incredibly reasonable cost. Her produce meant we ate like kings on our crossing West to Newport, RI!
Say hi to Peter & Theresa from me (Justin, from England), and here’s wishing you all godspeed and fair winds on your onwards passage – maybe see y’all in Bristol upon your return… Bon voyage!
Excellent! thanks for the top tips. We’re not certain we will stop in the azores. It all depends on the winds and seas. But if we do I’ll be sure to look up Peter and Theresa. I’m looking forward to being back in the West Country!
Lucy, having been at sea myself (many years ago!) and being keenly interested in sail trading, (my wife’s ancestors were Masters out of Topsham in the mid-1800s), do let us know when you’re approaching UK and particularly the Bristol Channel as we virtually look out on it; (live near Watchet)
Regards and Good Sailing,
Martin Southwood
Hi Martin, I’ve jumped off Irene for now. She will be sailing into Bristol Harbour end of second week in July. I hope to meet the ship in Bristol so will keep you and other folks updated. Regards, Lucy
